Hotline Miami PC Game Review

This could be good right?
Hotline Miami is a crazy hard arcade style game where the objective is to kill everyone on the level. You get points for each kill, but you get more points for faster kills and combo's or being creative with how you are killing the enemy. Before you go on your rampage you are given the choice of wearing a mask that give's you some kind of bonus (faster kills, longer combo time, etc) and each mask is based off some kind of animal which is cool. Though you won't know what your getting into until you start playing and trust me when I say this you will die a lot. This game is hard, though not because it controls clunky (which it doesn't) but its how the enemy reacts to every gun shot and opening of a door. If your smart you'll clear out a room without alarming others, but the second you fire off your gun they all come hunting for you. This is just one of the many problems you have to face in game, is it easier to just silently kill everyone with a melee weapon or am I good enough and have enough bullets to kill them all quick. It is a bit of a dilemma but it can be both fun and frustrating at the same time.

Visually this game is great a throw back to the 32-bit era though I understand the concept of Miami in the 80's being its central location since most of the stages are in buildings you lose a little on the scenery. Although you make up for it with the soundtrack and atmosphere, these two things are surprisingly good in this game. I'm always fond of newer games that use 2D sprites over 3D one's, I have always thought of those people to be a bit more creative.

In the end, Hotline Miami is a solid, fun, and equally hard game but once you figure out the best way to complete the stages fast and efficiently then there is a tremendous amount of fun to be had.

Hotline Miami: 8/10
+Fast/Smooth Gameplay
+Lots of Masks
+Replayability
-Kind of short
